We are pleased to show our support the proposed establishment of the “RFID/Logistics Technology and Development Commercialization Centre (DCC)” in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). On 28th Oct., 2005, Craig Jo, the Business Development Director of Hong Kong RFID, was invited to join the Work Group for the Promotion of RFID Technology in Hong Kong. During the meeting, he pointed out the concern and the expectation from the RFID industry in Hong Kong.
“We see an urgent need to develop, test and implement the latest RFID based logistics and supply chain technology in Hong Kong in order to maintain the competitive of our industry.” Said by Craig during the meeting. “In order to help diffusing the RFID technology down the supply chain to the market, we also need a central database, hardware and software demonstration and technology diffusion services for the industrialists to test and adopt the RFID products to end-users.” The proposal of HKSTP to develop a DCC in the Science Parks could provide such kind of supportive services to disseminating the RFID technology to the industry. This enhances the RFID industry to be an important role in the worldwide.
As our neighboring economies, like Taiwan and Singapore, have invested heavily in the application and R&D of RFID technology, the timely set up of the proposed centre is definitely important to help Hong Kong to strengthen its position as the logistics and distribution hub and be the leading RFID technology centre in the region. The establishment of DCC would be enlightened the development of RFID. The RFID/Logistic Technology and Development Commercialization Centre (DCC) would install conveyor, RFID gate and relevant equipments. The proposal would help Hong Kong to be the leading role of RFID technology in the world and attract overseas large technologies companies to set-up their research base in Hong Kong. With excellent communication, finance and legal systems and the investment from overseas large technologies companies, many local and overseas companies in Hong Kong would benefit from the RFID technology.
